Scholarship Coverage

The KAS scholarship offers extensive financial support, covering living costs, health insurance, and additional allowances, ideal for studies at German public universities where tuition is minimal or waived.

  • Monthly Stipend:

    • €992 for Master’s students

    • €1,400 for Doctoral candidates

  • Health Insurance of up to €120 per month

  • Family Allowance (if applicable):

    • €276 per month for spouses

    • €194 per month per child

  • Funding for a German language course (up to 6 months) if necessary

  • Additional Benefits: Includes access to academic seminars, networking events, soft skills training, and integration into the KAS alumni network

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must hold a university degree equivalent to a German Bachelor’s degree

  • Proficiency in the German language (minimum B2 level) is required

  • Generally under 30 years old at the time of application

  • Demonstrated commitment to political or social causes, aligning with democratic principles

  • Strong moral character, openness to intercultural dialogue, and a desire to contribute positively to society

  • Must have above-average academic performance

  • Must have a plan to study a minimum of four semesters at a university in Germany

Required Documents

  • CV in tabular form, including details about your previous voluntary work or social commitment

  • Copies of academic transcripts and certificates (in German translation if the originals are not in English)

  • Copies of your study performance records if you have been studying at a University in Germany.

  • Proof of German language proficiency (Minimum B2)

  • Two letters of recommendation, both academic and personal. The first letter (academic) should be written by a university professor or teacher holding a doctoral degree, and the author cannot be the same as the one providing the academic letter of recommendation.

  • Admission letter from a German university (if available)

  • Further Documents for PhD applicants:

    • An explanation of your doctoral thesis in detail: English or German should be used for this exposé (5-10 pages; font size 12; 1.5 line spacing).

    • A second academic letter of recommendation: This second letter should be written by the supervisor of your doctoral thesis. It replaces the personality recommendation letter.

    • A confirmation of supervision by your doctor/father/mother

Application Process

  • Applicants living or studying in Germany have to apply for the scholarship via the domestic selection program using the online portal

  • Other applicants may send the written application directly to the responsible KAS office in their home country. Please also check specific regional requirements.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview either virtually or in person

  • Successful applicants will be informed of the decision and provided with further instructions
